This course is delivered over 6 1-hour sessions. In order to maintain a high standard of teaching quality, the first five sessions consist of no more than 8 students.

 

The final hour of the course is a 1-1 private session, focusing on proofreading and revision suggestions of your work, which should not be more than 3000 words.

 

At the end of the course, you will receive a Post-Course Review Pack to reiterate all of the skills learnt over the initial 5 group sessions.

Description

This course covers 5 main difficulties that students experience when writing essays. With our experienced teachers, you will gain the skills and knowledge to produce a much better quality of essay, and reproduce those skills independently at a later date with the help of your Post-Course Review Pack.

Thesis Statement Lesson

Aim: to develop the students’ ability to write an academic introduction – specifically Thesis Statements. The lesson shows different writing structures for thesis statements using linking words.

Paragraph Structure Lesson

Aim: to analyse the function of each sentence within a paragraph to ensure that students’ writing is clear and concise.

Cohesion and Coherence Lesson

Aim: to confidently identify and implement a variety of lexical and linguistic features to reference elsewhere in a text appropriately.

Academic Style Lesson

Aim: to analyse some of the important features of academic style by comparing the same two texts written formally and informally, discussing the common features.

Plagiarism Avoidance Lesson

Aim: to develop the students’ ability to paraphrase effectively using internet tools and going through a 3-stage process.
